About Ohr Ami
The Jewish Hospice Program
Ohr Ami, the Hebrew phrase that means "Light of My People", is the name of The Jewish Hospice Program. We are pleased to be the first hospice program in San Diego County specifically dedicated to the needs and concerns of the Jewish community.
Hospice is a unique program dedicated to providing medical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and families during the final months of life. Hospice professionals work in coordination with the patient, their personal physician, family and caregivers, providing pain management, symptom relief and other services to enhance quality of life.
As in all hospice care, the Jewish Hospice Program respects the dignity of life. We honor the mandate to cherish life and live every day to its fullest. Our goal is to ensure that each day is full of the certainty that you and your family are being well cared for during this time.
Ohr Ami provides services that are rooted in an understanding and appreciation of Judaism and Jewish life. We are blessed to have a rabbi who provides the spiritual care for each patient and serves as the Rabbinic Director of the program. Our professional team has been educated in the religious traditions and culture of Judaism and the Jewish people. They are familiar with the unique needs and concerns of Jewish patients and their families, and are appreciative of and sensitive to the diversity of Jewish expression within the Jewish community.
Ohr Ami – The Jewish Hospice Program is presented by LightBridge Hospice & Palliative Care. The LightBridge mission is to assist our patients to move through the last stages of their lives with grace, strength, and hope.
LightBridge Hospice & Palliative Care is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of HealthCare Organizations.

The care we offer at Ohr Ami is a living embodiment of ḥesed, loving kindness, which is a primary Jewish value. Ohr Ami team members exemplify this value and the services they render, providing continuous acts of ḥesed. Our commitment is to bring to patients and their loved ones physical, emotional and spiritual support, all within a Jewish context. Providing comfort, dignity and peace of mind is both our mission and our passion.
Ohr Ami affirms the Jewish imperative u'va'ḥarta ba'ḥayyim, "choose life". By helping to assure that a patient is as comfortable and pain-free as possible; by assisting patients and loved ones to attend to end-of-life issues; and by maximizing the quality of their time together, Ohr Ami honors the mandate to cherish life and to live every day to its fullest.
Sending Donations
Making a donation to Ohr Ami is a meaningful way to fulfill the time-honored tradition of tzedakah, giving to a worthy cause, in memory of a friend or relative, on the occasion of a yahrzeit, and at those times during the year when Yizkor is recited. It can also be a way of honoring someone on a special occasion or simply a means of supporting the San Diego Jewish community.
Ohr Ami accepts donations via a non-profit foundation that LightBridge Hospice has established through the Jewish Community Foundation. Donations to Ohr Ami made through this non-profit foundation are tax-deductible and are exclusively used to benefit the Jewish community of San Diego County.
Please make checks payable to the JEWISH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION with a notation designating it for the San Diego Jewish Hospice Program Fund. Please send all donations care of LightBridge Hospice.
The Jewish Community Foundation is a tax exempt organization under Section 501 ( C ) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All charitable donations are tax exempt for both income and estate tax purposes. We will send you a receipt in the mail.

The Jewish Community Foundation sends an acknowledgement letter to each donor to honor their gift. We also provide a note to the patient's family informing them of the gifts received on behalf of their loved one. Gift amounts are never disclosed.
